  • Angelika’s Kitchen

TGIF!  I actually didn’t leave work til late today because I got caught up in a few things, which was lame.  When I got home I had a snack of 1/2 cup Fiber 1 and 2 oz Almond milk, while catching up on my ’stories’, i.e. the past two weeks of Ugly Betty.

Cereal and milk is kind of my downfall - in my less health-concious days, I’ve been known to plow through entire boxes in a single day.  I have to be really careful and only have small portions or I can get carried away.  Snack is 69 calories, 25g carbs, 2g fat, 2g protein.

So I did man up and had dinner with my friend Ellen tonight at a Vegan/Organic restaurant in the village called Angelika’s Kitchen.  The wait was insanely long, and I was getting a little crabby towards the end, since my snack was so small and I was hungry!  But when we finally got seated I perked right up!  The menu was huge, but I wanted to focus on the daily specials, because they’re special. :P

I had two small plates for dinner.  The first was a wheatberry salad with tons of veggies, including carrots, avocados, broccoli, and onion.  The menu description was really long, and I don’t remember it all, I’m sorry!  But it was amazingly delicious.

I also had the walnut-lentil pate with crudites and crisps.  It was also really good.

The wheatberry salad was definitely the winner, but both were amazingly great.  I had about 3/4 of the wheatberry salad, and most of the pate and all but 2 of the crisps.

As soon as I walked in, I saw these amazing pieces of cake floating around the restaurant.  When I found out they were coconut cake, I knew a slice was going to be mine.  Luckily Ellen was willing to split a piece:

The middle layer was a date filling that was really delicious.  Unfortunately the cake was very dry, and the frosting and date filling were the best part.  I had half, but I shouldn’t have had so much because I didn’t really like the cake part.  I’m estimating this dinner at 600 calories.

Tomorrow I’m headed out to Conneticut for a family event.  The plan is to wake up early and hit the gym before a 10 AM train out to the country. :P  I’m going to try to blog before I leave, but if I’m in too much of a rush, I’ll give you all a recap when I come home.  Night!
