I got home from work this afternoon absolutely exhausted. I made myself a new snack to get my energy up: Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin English Muffins with a Laughing Cow Swiss wedge! I thought this would be weird but I really loved the savory sweet combo!
Snack was 195 calories, 37g carbs, 2g fat, and 9g protein.
After this, I really wanted to keep eating. I knew that if I stayed in the house - things would go down badly. So I left the apt in favor of one of my favorite pastimes: recreational grocery shopping. I walked down to the market and spent a good hour perusing the aisles and looking for new products. That led me to creating one of my favorite dinners in a while.
I loved this meal. I loved thinking it up, I loved shopping for it, I loved making it and - most important - I loved eating it! I especially loved that I used alot of my in house supplies for it. Of course, I had ton of CSA greens to use - plus some tempeh on the way out. I decided to make a spin off of the spinach and strawberry salad my aunt made a few weeks back at a family get together. You can find the directions on the Salad Concoctions page. Funny, I remembered the salad and the orzo dish, but forgot they were two separate dishes and combined them into one! Ha ha, whoops!
And I had a tempeh burger on these cute little honey whole wheat sandwich buns I picked up at the market today:
You guys know I eat ketchup pretty often, and in large amounts when I do. Well, I was buying regular ketchup until it dawned on me - HFCS! Ketchup is probably the last source of HFCS in my diet. Yuck-o. So the plan from now is organic ketchup. And when I saw Annie’ Organic Ketchup on sale at the grocery store, that was icing on the cake:
So here’s my delicious dinner all together:
Loved, loved, loved this dinner. Dinner was 537 calories, 67g carbs, 21g fat, and 26g protein.
I am totally full and satisfied - go me! I even packed lunch and snack for tomorrow (love productivity!). Unfortunately, while I was making breakfast, my stick blender broke!
Boo hoo! So add ‘Return Stick Blender to BB&B’ to the list of to-do’s! Night guys!

Mmm I’ll bet the sweet english muffin and cheese combo WOULD be good. Reminds of the first time I tried those wedges with apple. I didn’t know how I would like it but I ended up loving the combo!
The dinner looks great! And good for you for going with the organic ketchup. I don’t think I could make myself do it since I eat it so infrequently anyway, I wouldn’t probably bother spending the money since we already have a giant bottle of normal ketchup but I envy your drive for a completely clean nutritional palate!
I am seriously obsessed with Ezekiel English Muffins. Why did it take me so long to discover them?? I think they’re perfect. Oh, and I used to totally love cream cheese on cinnamon raisin bagels. It’s a great flavor combo.
Kristie - If I didn’t eat ketchup that often, I wouldn’t bother but since I eat it a couple times a week and LOVE it, organic is the way to go. Thanks for your sweet comments!
Betsy - They are amazing, aren’t they? My fave cream cheese combo was cream cheese, salsa, and Triscuits. HEAVEN.

Because I am a firm believer that ketchup isn’t ketchup unless it’s Heinz ketchup, I have to tell you that they make an organic kind that is HFCS-free as well. I love Annie, but I’m not sure I trust her with my ketchup.
I would, however, trust you to make me a salad because yours always look SO GOOD.
Arielle - Re Heinz, Ooh, I will look into that.
Re salads: Aw shucks. I guess you could say I won your friendship with my salads???
Score.

Hi Kate,
I live in NYC as well and haven’t been able to find the Ezekiel bread or english muffins anywhere! I actually live in Brooklyn, but work in Manhattan. So if you can give me any specific places to go that would be great! Thanks and glad the surgery went well!
Cait - Re: surgery, thanks so much! Re NO Ezekiel, gasp! I don’t know how I’d live! Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Gourmet Garage all have Ezekiel.

Now T.H.A.T. I could do with a laughing cow cheese wedge
I adore sandwiches that combine the sweet/savory flavor. Example: My favorite of all time (or at least when I was little) was a turkey sandwich with light mayonaisse (though it was regular when I was little, lol) on toasted cinnamon raisin nut bread! O.M.G. It’s incredible! Please promise me you will try it at some point!
Julz - I thought that about the laughing cheese wedge after the fact! Good eye! Haha, okay I’ll try it! My fave sandwich growing up was mayo and iceberg lettuce on Wonder bread. I won’t make you try that!
