Well, I went on schedule this evening to pick up the CSA stuff. We got a great load this week so I was pumped! Our pick up site is on 86th st, so since it was early, I thought I’d walk the mile to my apt, grab my mail and go home and make my new recipe. On my beautiful walk up West End Ave, I got the news that Peter will be out with a colleague tonight. I could have made the recipe anyway, but P hates to miss it when I cook, so I decided to postpone dinner again.

Instead I chilled out at my apartment and ate this bowl of cherries:

Cherries are hot right now in the blogosphere, and I’ve always wanted to like them but never really have. But I did find them at a fruit shop for 2.49/lb, which I hear is a pretty good price. Worth an experiment, and I knew I needed a snack, plus they were fun to eat. Snack was 155 calories, 38g carbs, 1g fat, and 3g protein. Result = meh, I could still take em or leave em.

Then I spent several hours reading the 5 brand spanking new magazines I had waiting for me (I’m a magazine-aholic, I know) and watching a bunch of new episodes of Jon and Kate plus 8, which is by far my favorite non-primetime television show. We don’t have a tv downtown, so whenever I’m uptown I make it a point to catch up on my TLC (Little People, Big World is another huge fave).

Before I knew it, it was 11 PM - yikes! I booked it home and wolfed down this sandwich as soon as I walked through the door:

Turkey, jack cheese, mustard and romaine on rye bread. Freaking delicious. It’s amazing how good food tastes when you’re truly hungry. Dinner was 273 calories, 36g carbs, 6g fat, and 19g protein.

I’m too tired to model the CSA goods, so I’ll show you that tomorrow. P’s still out - can you believe it? On a school night, no less! Night guys!

I just tried cherries this summer for the first time. I like them, but don’t like the pit part. Your sandwich looks yummy & I like the Little People Big world show too :-)

I’m with you on the cherry front. I don’t MIND them but I’ve never been a huge fan and there are lots of other great fruits I would pick before I would pick cherries.

That sandwich is so simple yet it sounds SO good. Sandwiches are such a great food aren’t they :)

Hey Kate! I’ve been reading your blog for a few days now, and I’ve really been enjoying it! You have such a sensible approach to eating! Keep up the good work.

I’m one of those people that LOVES cherries, but I still haven’t been able to find them for less than 4.99/lb, so you’re one lucky girl in my eyes!

I never really liked cherries, either…I keep wanting to try them again, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be unimpressed.

I actually watched an episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8 after you guys were talking about it. It was pretty good!

Wow, you did find some cheap cherries! The ones I’ve seen around here are all like $6-7/pound. And I don’t like them THAT much.

Oh, and I was hoping to see a pink pants picture! :)

    Hi Kate,

I think it is so funny that you mentioned Jon and Kate +8, I love that show and I was so embarassed about it! But I have come to find that everyone loves it.

I also totally agree that food tastes SO much better when you are hungry. I often think of thre french proverb, a good meal ought to begin with hunger. I really need to test that theory more often :) happy friday!

Arielle - Re: cherries, I could have sworn I read about you eating some the other day. But you’re right, not so impressive. Re: Jon and Kate Plus 8, awesome! Such a great show. My friends Sarah says she can’t watch it, because all those kids stress her out. Ha!

Justy - Re: cherries, You’d have to LOVE them for that price! Re pink pants, SORRY! :( I was exhausted. You’ll have it by the end of the weekend.

Melissa - Re Jon and Kate Plus 8, psh, that’s not even the worst show I like. I have some SHAMELESS tastes in tv. Just awful. Re hunger: definitely worth the wait!

Tina - Haha, aw sorry to make you drool!

Maintaining a nutritious, healthy and tasty diet is very important but not that easy.

I think that you know the art to blend all the three.

Wow, thanks Pat! It’s a struggle, but I try!
