  • One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

    Hey all,

I got so busy cooking yesterday that I didn’t have a chance to blog before leaving for the party.  And then today, P and I spent having quality time, so I was kind of wrapped up in that. :)  Sorry for the post delay!  Well, I’ve had an interesting weekend in terms of my diet goals.  Here’s the good news: two weekend workouts, lots of walking and moving around, and I had alot of fun!  The bad news: I had a HUGE margarita last night and four, count em, FOUR slices of pizza today!  FOUR.  I can’t remember the last time I had one slice of pizza, let alone FOUR.  Here’s the breakdown:

Our party wasn’t until late night, and we knew it would just be snackies at the party, so P and I decided to try this fondue place in our neighborhood for an early dinner.  The first time we tried to eat at this place it was closed - and get this - it was closed again this time!  This place has the weirdest hours - it’s like they don’t want people to eat there!  So on a whim we went for mexican at Mary Ann’s.  And then on a whim - we got margarita’s (you see how this is setting up for disaster?).  Here’s my HUGE drink:

It was prickly pear flavor and so freaking good.  It even looks amazing in the picture,  I have to admit, I was totally toasted after drinking this.  Peter had to carry me out of the resturaunt.  I slept it off before the party.  What a lush.  While I was in a margarita haze, P ordered an appetizer.  We rarely order appetizers for mexican food, but he had heard of this shrimp, jalepeno, mushroom and cheese dish he wanted to try:

I don’t really like jalepenos, but this was really tasty.  Kind of a random list of ingredients though.  I had between 1/2 and 1/3 of this.  Then for an entree, I got vegetarian fajitas:

That foil packet contains two wraps; under the packet is some black beans and rice.  That white blob is goat cheese, and there’s a bunch of zucchini and squash.  I ate both wraps, with 1/2 the goat cheese, 2/3 the veggies, 1/2 the black beans, and none of the rice.

After a disco nap, P and I headed out to Brooklyn for Ine’s birthday party (Happy Birthday Ines!).  I made deviled eggs and croissant wrapped brie and totally forgot to take pictures of them!  I’m sorry!  I wish you could have seen them, because they looked amazing and were definitely a hit at the party!  Since I was still coming down off my margarita, I just sipped water at the party.  But it was way fun and a beautiful night to be out strolling in Brooklyn!

I got to bed around 2; woke up around 11 with the gym on the brain.  I had two oatmeal zucchini muffins as a Pre Workout Snack.  Unfortunately P woke up and was determined to keep me in the apt with him.  So the gym got postponed. :)

Pre Workout Snack was 151 calories, 25g carbs, 5g fat, and 3g protein.

After that I made a proper breakfast: 1/2 oatmeal, 2 oz soy milk, 35g raisins, flax, cinnamon, vanilla:

Breakfast was 280 calories, 57g carbs, 4g fat, and 8g protein.

It began to rain, and we were both in a cuddly couch mood, so we decided to have an 80s movie marathon.  We watched Roxanne, One Crazy Summer and Loverboy.  While watching Loverboy (swoon little Patrick Dempsey) we both starting craving pizza.  I relunctantly agreed to a slice and put Peter in charge while I took a shower.  20 min later, this appeared at my door:

I was not happy.  It was delicious.  I was really not happy.

Hence, I had two slices for lunch.  And two slices for dinner.  I was really not happy.  It was freaking amazing.

Around 9 PM, I realized I could either sit around my apartment feeling disgusting, or I could go to the gym and feel disgusting.  I chose the latter.  I had to go to the far NYSC which is 24 hrs, since it was 9 PM on a Sunday but it was worth it.  I did weights, ab work, treadmill, and Cardio Wave - as well as the two long walks there and back.  I feel so much better.  Cardio Smorgas = 467 calories burned.

So that was my weekend: definitely full of ups and downs.  I’m not perfect - but I have lost 21 lbs and maintained that loss, so I must be doing something right, despite missteps like this weekend.  I meant what I said about rededicating myself to my weight loss. I have three months til my ultimate weight loss goal I set for myself.  I can do it - I just have to apply myself.  Come on Kate, get in the game.

On a blog maintenance note, you’ll notice I joined the BlogHer ad network.  I really wasn’t happy with the Google ads I was getting - they looked kind of sketchy, so I quit.  I think you’ll appreciate the BlogHer ones alot more - I know I do!  Oh, and I’ve added a new ‘Recipes’ page (found on the side bar) where I put the Oatmeal Zucchini Muffin recipe.  Have a great night, guys!

Ah don’t beat yourself up about that, I had pizza tonight & banana/chocolate chip pancakes! This weekend seemed to be a splurge weekend for everyone, so you’re not alone. The margarita looks freaking amazing so I’m glad you enjoyed it and you did end up going to the gym so thumbs up for you. I needed to do that tonight, but opted not to and am now paying for it with the disgusting feeling. You eat so healthy the rest of the week stuff like this doesn’t even matter. Have a great week and I know you will accomplish your goal, PERMANENT weight loss is a long and slow process but with long lasting results :-)

I think it’s great that you splurged, you enjoyed it, you still worked out, AND you don’t feel bad about it! The pizza and the margarita definitely look like they were worth the extra calories-yum! That’s the key to permanent weightloss-being able to live your life, splurge occasionally, and not fall completely off the wagon in the process. It’s not one or two days that makes us gain weight, it’s when those one or two days turn into several weeks! Good for you, and as always, I appreciate your positive attitude!

Why even bother to live in New York if you can’t occasionally have pizza?

    Also, Biggest Margarita Ever. Wow.

I had a mess of a weekend, too. Don’t worry! Also, that pizza is making me drool and remind me to tell you my Mary Ann’s margaritas story. It is a good one.

Ashley - THANKS! I need to hear that. :)

Meghan - You’re so right - it’s not one or two days, it’s one or two weeks, or months! Re positivity, thanks! It’s the only way I know how to live. :P

VeggieGirl - I know, it bounces of the screen, doesn’t it?

Sara - Truer words were never spoken.

Arielle - Seriously, that pizza is picture perfect isn’t it? Re: margarita story, ooh, will do. Those babies should be illegal.

Weekend splurges are definitely worth it and necessary sometimes. ;) As long as you hop back on the healthy wagon (like we know you will), no harm done! Glad you enjoyed the weekend!
