  • Perfectly Perfect

I’m feeling pretty perfect this morning! :D I have a clean house (including a made bed and empty sink), happy boyfriend, I’ve been to the gym this morning, cute outfit, good hair and have a packed breakfast and lunch! I have to remember to savor these highs to remember during the lows. :)

This morning I woke up pretty easily at 6:50. Still loving my new bed - I can’t wait til my new bed set arrives! They’re mailing it to the office this week. P is really happy with his clean computer desk. He has this monstrous desk in the bedroom that has two monitors on it - along with all his techy stuff. But the problem was it was so covered in papers and dust, even though it is absolutely HUGE, he never had enough room. Well no more! It’s completely cleaned and organized. :) Next step: shelves above the desk and a new bureau!

Decided against the TBC Class (even though it was only 10 min from start time, I probably could have made it if I hustled - gym is across the street) in favor of letting my muscles repair a bit. I was sore as I was getting out of bed, so I took that as a sign. Before I left for the gym I had a slice of Ezekiel toast with a tbsp PB:

Pre Workout Snack was 170 calories, 18g carbs, 8g fat, and 8g protein.

I had a good workout this morning, although it started off slow. I started on the elliptical, then the funky elliptical, then the Cardio Wave. I finished out with some light weights and standing mat work (lunges, squats) and then some ab work. I felt good and strong. Cardio Smorgas with Weights = 456 calories burned.

After getting ready for the day, I grabbed a treat on the way to work:

I don’t know, felt like a coffee kind of day. At work I had breakfast, Strawberry Muesli:

Yum! This was 1/2c oats, 140g strawberries, 1/2c nonfat plain yogurt (Keri is trying to get me off vanilla yogurt) flax, 2 oz vanilla hemp milk and vanilla. I missed my vanilla yogurt a little, but the hemp milk helped with the sweetness, so it wasn’t too off from the usual. Breakfast was 317 calories, 56g carbs, 6g fat, and 14g protein. A little low on calories, but I’ll have a mid morning snack if I need it.

When I woke up this morning, I had one thought in my head, “I want to run a 5k.” Which is completely absurd because I couldn’t run if my life depended on it. Like, literally. Last year I was in a really really scary haunted house at Halloween, and I was being chased by bad guys, and I got tired of running and so I ran into a corner, sat down and cried. Tre ridiculous. Anyway, I’ve never ever EVER thought of running one before - I don’t really like runnning. I get tired and lose focus and feel awkward and get bored. But I don’t know, it was the first thing I thought of in the morning and I can’t get it out of my head. Maybe my subconscious is trying to tell me something…

Hi Kate! You should really consider running a 5K- with all the cardio you do now, you could definitely do it! There’s something about all the positive energy vibes in the line-up for a race that I think you would really enjoy. Plus it’s a great motivator for working out- find a buddy to sign up with and you’ll have a blast! http://www.active.com lists most of the races/events around the country and you can sign-up there too.

Hope your great day continues- your cheerful post brightened my morning!

Great morning! I ran my first 5k last year, really I pretty much walked the whole thing :) didn’t get a good time at all but had so much fun. Then as a company we signed up for a huge 5k here in Orlando and we trained as group every Wed and Fri for about 3 or 4 months and I ended up finishing it in 31 minutes! Training was key we would do almost 3 miles with everyone going their own pace. I ran/walked at first and eventually was able to run almost with out stopping at the end of training. It is funny though b/c I felt just like you explain “awkward” but after a while you just feel really strong and like you accomplished something after you run.

haha that made me laugh about the running! I always think it would be cool to run a 10k (I ran a 5k once really slowly). I am just NOT a runner, but every now and then I get this urge to run a race…

    Have a happy day!

Glad you’re starting the week off right…hopefully it’ll continue through the week!
I’d say go for the 5k. I’ve heard good things about the Couch to 5k program, although I’ve never done it. I hate running, too. I will still run a few times a week, but only about 2-3 miles usually…I get bored with it pretty quickly. Wish I didn’t though…I think it’d be awesome to run a marathon or 1/2 marathon!

I love days like this… make the most of your optimism! and possibly your urge to run a 5K as well! I’m like you, I don’t particularly like running nor am I good at it but I think we can do it if we put our minds to it, don’t you? :)

you TOTALLY can run a 5k. I was in the same situation as you back in October. One day I woke up and just got the strangest urge to RUN. Like, it was so weird because I hated running. Despised it actually. It worried me a bit because I would sometimes think about how if someone was chasing me with a gun or something, I would just have to submit to dying because I was THAT bad at running.

Now I love running, I can do about 6 miles relatively easily and find it really clears my head. The key is to really take is slowly and DON’T try to overdo it. If you try to run even just a mile straight when you haven’t run before you will just get discouraged. Start with 5 minutes (or even less) at a time and slowly work your way up. Also don’t run on consecutive days because you’ll get burned out and sick of it.

Good luck with it, I’m really excited for you and can’t wait to see your progress. But no pressure, if you decide running just isn’t for you, no big deal. Make sure you do this for YOU and not for anyone else : )

    VeggieGirl - THANKS!

Betsy - Thanks for the link - I’ve been there all morning!

Bridget - I think you’re right about the 5k - thank you for the support! Thanks for the link, too! Re post: that’s the best outcome I could hope for, right? :)

StephOrlando - Wow, good for you! I hope that I could get to that state with running!

Kat - That haunted house was so freaking scary. Best in Manhattan. Good thing it wasn’t like a real killer or robber chasing me….because apparently I would sit down against a wall and cry. :P

Justy - Yeah, I think Couch to 5K is the way to go. I feel the same way re: running. I hate that I hate it. :P

    Danielle - TOTALLY!!!!

Sarah - Re: being chased with gun, refer to Halloween story. :P Thanks for sharing your success with running - I hope I can get to that state someday. Thanks for the tips too - keep ‘em coming! Love the last paragraph - I thought about that one for a while.

I’m so lucky to have such a supportive readership!

    - Kate

    Kate,

Just came across your website. I just finished the couch to 5K program and ran in a 5K on 4th of July (my time was 30:40). The C25K program was just the kick in the butt that I (and my fiance) needed to start running. We both hated it at first, but now we look forward to our runs together and always plan our week around it. Good luck with your training! Katy
