  • Short on Time

Sorry no dinner post last night guys! I simply ran out of time. Between traveling uptown, picking up the CSA harvest, walking to my apt, chores around my apt, traveling back down to Chelsea, cleaning, packing, baking for Peter and cooking dinner - there wasn’t enough hours in the evening! I seem to have that problem alot!

So I ended up not being able to make it to the gym or my friends’ shows. Boo. But I did just see their concert last week, and I lugged that huge CSA bag a mile, so I think I’ll be okay on both accounts.

I did manage to make Peter banana bread mini muffins:

Peter took this picture - that’s why he didn’t notice it wasn’t pretty because part of the counter was wet. :( This was from my own recipe - I tried to incorporate flax and walnuts to make them more filling. I used two bananas that I had frozen about a week ago. I’ve never frozen bananas before - but they thawed well and mashed easily. Despite being a little gross to work with.

Before I left the office I had seven almonds and a crispy oatmeal cookie.

Snack was 109 calories, 11g carbs, 7g fat and 3g protein. While I was running around town, I had a new Kashi Bar:

Kashi Crunchy Chocolate Caramel. This was awesome - totally a winner. Snack was 150 calories, 28g carbs, 3g fat, and 8g protein.

When I walked through the door from running errands, I was starving! I made myself a Veggie Burger with a slice of organic American cheese on an Ezekiel roll:

Dinner was 370 calories, 54g carbs, 10g fat, and 19g protein.

After that I did some heavy duty packing and cleaning until Peter came home and literally shoved one of these in my mouth:

Black and White Cookie! My absolute, absolute favorite! Luckily he got the little guys not the Big Mamas. So I had one and part of another…and part of another. :D

I crashed out early and took one of my Melatonin supplements before bed. I’m not sure if it was the Placebeo effect or what (only time will tell) but I did fall asleep faster and wake up easier! I woke up at 6:50 and got out of bed pretty easily…

which means I made it to the gym! I knew I had to get it together this morning because I’ll be gone this weekend - and I find that when I’m on a crunch like that I have an easier time doing the things I need to. I did elliptical, funky elliptical, then Cardio wave. I finished out with weights and standing mat work (lunges, squats), and then some ab work. Cardio, weights and mat work = 500 calories burned.

Even though I was mostly packed, I still had all the last minute stuff to do: packing a snack bag for the weekend, gathering bathroom/workout gear - on top of all my normal chores: make bed, sort laundry, feed the shoe. So it was a stressful morning!

I am one of those people who is guaranteed to forget something, and I got all the way to the office and settled in when I realized I forgot my camera! Obviously I couldn’t go the whole weekend without my camera, so after a couple panicked calls to Peter that went unanswered - I finally reached him and lucky for me, he was still at the apt! He agreed to meet me with the camera a few blocks from my office, and when I met him, we got iced coffees. Yay Peter - you saved the weekend!

    Here was my coffee:

I also had a little over a cup of Optimum Mush and a cup nonfat milk:

and a small bowl of fruit stolen from breakfast day. Keri said I could have one or the other, bowl of fruit OR banana on cereal. I chose fruit.

    All together:

Breakfast was 446 calories, 93g carbs, 4g fat, and 17g protein.

Phew, long post! I’ve got to buckle down and get some work done before my train to Rhode Island! Have a great one guys!

Hey Kate, This is my first time posting, but I’m so inspired by your journey and really appreciate your honesty regarding all the pitfalls, seeing someone else go through it and recover and stay positive is so motivating! I suffer from bingeing every once in a while and I just hate myself afterwards, because I hate feeling so powerless over myself. There are times when I just feel like I can’t stop eating and I can’t control myself. Did you and Keri talk about what could possibly be triggering a binge? Also, my 2nd question: why can’t you have both a banana and fruit?

    You’ve been a busy lady!
That chocolate caramel Kashi bar sounds pretty yummy! I don’t think I’ve seen those bars, but then again I haven’t really looked…I don’t eat many bars…
Oh, and that P can be such a bother, huh? Shoving cookies in your mouth…how dare he?! ;)
Hope you have a great trip!

The caramel chocolate are my fav kashi tlc crunchy too! Best tasting and lowest calorie-win win!

So I tried to go to Bar Pitti last night, but the wait was over an hour. Actually, I tried to go to Otto first (my fav), but same deal. I was willing to wait it out, but my date was not. Ending up having a disappointing dinner at Vineria con Cucina. Guess I should have made a reservation, but we weren’t sure what movie time we would make and when Wall-e would get out.

Anyways, I love that you try so many fun places!

PS Life doesn’t get much better than black and white cookies…look to the cookie as Seinfeld would say. sorry for the really long comment!

Love black and white cookies. And you have to try the Kashi chocolate pretzel bar. Because it’s the best.

this one time i was at the whole foods sandwich bar and i innocently asked the sandwich making employee if i could have american cheese on my veggie sandwich. you would have thought i asked her for a side of hydrogenated oils, because she scoffed at me (actually scoffed!), rolled her eyes, and said, “um, we don’t have processed cheese here.” though i really wanted to point out that most cheese is in fact processed in some way, i was mostly just baffled that they didn’t have the simple commodity that is american cheese.
so thank you kate for clarifying to me that yes! yes! organic american processed cheese does in fact exist and that girl was just incompetent.
score- kate: 1, whole foods: 0.

    leigh,

i’m afraid that the whole foods’ employee was correct, they don’t sell processed cheese. most cheese is unprocessed, while american cheese is a special type of food product that technically isn’t cheese because of all of its additives (hence the term “processed cheese”). processing doesn’t mean the procedures undertaken to make it, but rather that the product is a “manufactured” food. still, that shouldn’t call for a scoff…

Foodie - Keri and I talked briefly about it, but I’m sure we’ll go into depth about it during my next visit. She did mention that I have a trigger time - between the time I get home from work and the time Peter gets home from work. So I’ve been focusing on keeping busy and active during that time. Re: not having a banana and fruit, a cup of fruit and banana is just a lot of fruit and a lot of sugar.

    Justy - P is really such a pest. :P

Melissa - I can see that - Bar Pitti was really packed when we went there. Lots of hip and happenin’ people. (yawn.) Black and white cookies are the best - love that Seinfeld!

    Danielle - Thank you!

    VeggieGirl - THANKS!!

Arielle - Chocolate Pretzel bar, check. I’ll keep my eye out.

Betsy - Serious party foul. Always go for the B&W.

Leigh and Allie - I honestly can’t say I know to much about the processing of cheese. But I would assume that all cheese is processed in some way - it doesn’t come out of the cow like that, I’m pretty sure. So I would assume that anything done to milk to make it cheese can be termed ‘processing.’ I also know that Organic American Cheese exists, because Peter will only buy organic but loves American cheese, so he sought it out. In addition, I know that WF’s employees can be super snotty. So there you go.

Sarah - get yourself to NYC, stat. Re: blog, Congrats! Looks good so far! :)

ml - Thank you, that is so sweet of you to say! :)

    - Kate
