  • Greetings from Newport!

    Hey gang!

I’m sooo happy to be in Newport!  It is absolutely beautiful and I have been having a fabulous time.  I tried to post last night but wasn’t able to because of some computer difficulties.  But everything’s worked out - so get ready for a great post!

I left work a little later than I would have liked yesterday, but I managed to catch my train just in time.  It was PACKED!  I ended up having to sit on the ‘Quiet Car’ - which was fine with me since the last thing you want on a three hour trip is an infant screaming in your ear.  Ironically, towards the end of the trip, some alarm started giving a high pitched shriek for 20 min or so.  So much for quiet.

While I was on the train, I had some snacks that added up to lunch:

Two walnut banana mini muffins and 30g walnuts with 60g cranberries.  This wasn’t that balanced - I which I had been able to have half the cranberry mix with a 0% Fage in my bag, but I didn’t have a spoon.  Although, looking back, I could have gotten one at the snack car.  Ah well.  Snacky lunch was 592 calories, 82g carbs, 31g fat, and 9g protein.

Train was on time, and I arrived on schedule at 4 PM.  My little sister picked me up, and my older sister had cold ones waiting for us when we got back.  :) Sweet sister.

Corona with little sister leg in the background! :)  I think this is the first beer to make it on to WFWS.  I’m really NOT a beer drinker.  But how could I resist?  I didn’t finish this - i gave the last 1/4 of the bottle to my little sister.

Once I got settled a bit, my older sister and decided to take her dog, Dozer, for a nice, long walk.  We walked all over Newport  - it was beautiful!  It was some great exercise, too!

By the time we got back, I was starving!  We decided to go to a nearby resturaunt, The Black Pearl.  Here was our view:

    And another view:

That’s my big sister in the pink! :)

To start I had a glass of wine:

I also had another glass during dinner.  For an entree I got the swordfish:

That pad on top is some really great flavored butter…yikes.  I had about a 1/4.  I wasn’t expecting french fries, either - I figured fish=greens.  I guess not!  I all of the fish and fries - I was hungry!

After dinner, we went to a local ice cream place.  I got raspberry with chocolate chips - I didn’t even realize until after the fact that it was low fat frozen yogurt.

    It was soo good!

After that my older sister went out to hang out with some friends and my little sister and I crashed.  We watched Pirates of the Carribbean, which I have never seen before, believe it or not!  We went to bed before we got a chance to finish it - so hopefully we’ll get to finish today!

My sister had to sail this morning, so she was up at 6:30 AM.  She left shortly after, but Dozer was up and around - and not going to sleep again.  Around 7:15, I just gave in.  I got up,, got dressed, and did my final C25K run for this week.  I can see why people like to run with dogs!  I definitely got me moving when I thought I couldn’t anymore.  Once back at my sisters house, I did some ab work, squats, and lunges in her backyard.  C25K 1.3 plus mat work = 495 calories burned.

Before I left the house, I had half a small banana and a tbsp of PB:

Pre Workout Snack was 141 calories, 15g carbs, 9 g fat, and 5g protein.

Once I showered and got dressed, I set about breakfast.  My sister had a new cereal that I’ve been meaning to try:

Annie’s Homegrown CinnaBunnies.  They were good - not as filling as I would like, and I don’t think I would buy them in the future - but you know me, I love to try new cereals!  I mixed a cup of Bunnies with a conatiner of 0% Fage and a nectarine:

Breakfast was 390 calories, 59g carbs, 1g fat, and 19g protein.  Wish it had been more caloric, but ah well.

Since my sister is out sailing, my younger sister and I are going to the beach!  Stay cool, guys! 8)

PS. I’ll be back to answer comments soon!

    Hey Kate,

Just wondering how you have been feeling since increasing your calorie intake based on Keri’s advice. Have a great time in Newport!

This makes me really want to get outta town and visit some place else!!!

Also, I have also been wondering about how you feel with the extra calories. Also, did you talk to keri at all about the “bottomless pit” days? Does it mean your body actually IS requiring extra calories?

Woo, glad you are having a great time!

I love trying new cereals too. I can’t pass by the cereal aisle without carefully scanning for new and exciting cereals I haven’t tried. And when I see new ones I almost always have to buy them right away, or at least make sure I remember them to try later!

VeggieGirl - My sister was talking about that! Swoon!

TinaR - Re: extra calories, it’s hard to say. I feel fuller, I feel like I have more energy, I don’t feel like I have to force myself much anymore. However, I don’t really feel like I’ve seen much movement with my weight. So I don’t know…

Meghan - I haven’t talked to her much about the ‘bottlemless pit’ days. I definitely hope to go into it during my next appt!

    Brittany - Thanks!

Kristie - Totally. Cereal aisle=best aisle.

    - Kate
