  • Bacon and Jam?

I saw the most interesting sandwich in WF this morning and I had to try it: smoked turkey, grilled apples, fig jam, and bacon on wheat bread:

I usually love savory/sweet combos - and this was no exception! The apples and jam combined with the bacon and turkey was such an interesting mix of flavors! I’m not a huge bacon person - not that I don’t love it, it just makes me feel greasy and yucky afterwards, but this bacon was tasty and not too oily or greasy.

On the side, I had a container of 0% Fage mixed with honey and a little bit of cranberry trail mix:

Unfortunately I haven’t been too productive with anything but the mural - grrr. I’ve got to get some stuff done!!

I definitely could keep eating but I’m going to chug some water and try to reason with my ‘inner child’. Hah! You guys know what I’m up to this afternoon: gym then date! Have a great Friday afternoon!

That sandwich does look good! I’m usually a lover of the sweet/savory combo as well. One of my favorites from a local cafe is turkey, green apple, and apple butter on a homemade brioche roll. So good! And it’s called the “Green Gobbler” which is also cute :)
    Yay for Fridays!

That sandwich sounds A-MAZING! Another one of my favorite/weird combos is bacon and peanut butter sammies. Mmmm….

I’m just catching up on your blog now so I have a little something to say in response to your “binge” a few days ago. First off, I think I may have said it before but it’s seriously SO great to see that you don’t over-restrict or starve yourself after a binge. When I was binging, even occasionally, I wouldn’t eat the next day or if I did it was under 500 calories. The second thing I want to say is that while I was in the act of binging, I would stuff my face and think: “it’s okay, I’m already at a good place with my body, so it doesn’t matter with all this food. PLUS, it’s not like I’ll even gain a pound from this binge alone!” I actually stopped binging when I was told myself that although I was happy with that body, I would actually be SO MUCH happier if I didn’t have to deal with feeling bloated after a binge. Seriously, the only way I recovered was by considering how I would feel the next day/hour/minute after a binge and how much more proud i could feel if I just didn’t do it. Also, just using all of my strength to walk out of the kitchen and out the door to run an errand, take a walk, or even just sit outside helped SO MUCH. It’s way more embarrassing to binge in front of people than it is alone and embarrassment is something I try to avoid at all costs, so I wasn’t about to take a walk, then pass a grocery store, buy a ton of food (when I wouldn’t let myself back into the house) and binge in front of complete strangers!

Sorry this has been soooooo long, but good luck. I know you’ll overcome this little problemo because you basically already have!

    that sandwich combo sounds interesting!

i know people who stick granny smith apples in their grilled cheese sandwiches…kinda like people who have slices of cheddar cheese on top of their apple pie…Hehehe!

    have a good weekend!

That sandwich does sound interesting?! I’ve never had fig jam either.

And where are you finding those Peace cereals? Would they have them at WF’s? They sound good!!

    Have a great Weekend, Kate!

Lindsey - Apples in sandwiches - love!

Justy - Green Gobbler?! So cute!!

Meghan - Thank you so much for your comment. That is such an awesome point to bring up - remembering the aftermath BEFORE the binge. I will definitely start using that technique.

Brittany, Foodie, Leigh, and Chandra - Totally interesting combo = totally great sandwich! Food risks can sometimes really pay off!

Oatmeal - Cherries and scrambled eggs???? Do you just put diced cherries into the eggs?

Melissa S. - heheh - I’m going to try that apple into grilled cheese thing! Great way to get kids to eat it, I bet!

Gliding calm - They are good! Found ‘em at WF, but I’ve seen them at other grocery’s too. Check em out!

    - Kate
