Well, we made it! We’re both exausted, but we’re here and in one piece (or two pieces, I guess) - so that’s a success in my book. It’s amazing - as stressed as I was in New York yesterday, that’s how calm I am in Maine tonight. Just so you guys know what I’m working with, here’s my view as I blog:
How could I not be at peace, right?
Of course, it was tough getting to this point. Peter was absolutely miserable last night - and of course, being a man, this meant I had to be fully and completely aware of just how miserable he was. Bless him.
Somehow we managed to get packed and got to bed around midnight…
…and we were up at 4! Showers and last minute packing ensued with P moaning and groaning the whole way. When we stepped out of the apt around 5 AM, it was thunderstorming. Uh oh. During the cab ride to JFK, we were both running ‘what if our flight gets canceled?’ scenarios to each other. Luckily, by the time we got in to the airport and got settled, the rain had stopped. Phew! At the airport, I picked up a smallish breakfast around 6:20.
I got a Ciobani 2% (I like Ciobani about as much as Fage, so I usually go for whichever one is cheaper, usually Ciobani. And I usually go for 0%, but they only had 2% or whole), which I ate with a banana:
The banana was great for sweetness - since I didn’t have any honey around, it was a great replacement. In between bites of yogurt/banana I had bites of a Kind bar:
Hehe, love the ominous yogurt and banana in the background.
I also got an iced coffee to wake me up. I was so annoyed with this. The line for Dunkin Donuts was longer than the security checkpoint! I ordered a large, expecting a good sized, but still reasonable sized drink. This is what I got:
A freakin’ half gallon of coffee! Is this really necessary? Does anyone really need THIS much coffee in one sitting? I hate how everything is ’super sized’ these days. Paying an extra 50 cents to get three times as much fries, coffee, whatever is not a deal - you’re cheating yourself in the long run! Grr. Portion sizes are out of control these days. (You can tell I’m on 4 hrs of sleep, right?)
Anywho, flight went well. We were only in the air for 52 min or something silly - literally up and right back down. We took JetBlue, so two episodes of classic Saved By the Bell - prank war with Valley and Slater’s salamander dies so he becomes a jerk (????) - and we were done!
Getting the rental car was no problem, so we headed out on the road around 9 AM. As we started out I had a snack. Since I was driving, P took over as photographer:
Not bad, right?
Drive up was beautiful of course. Around 11 AM I got hungry again. We were around an hour from the house. I gaged my hunger and decided I’d rather have to delay lunch a bit than be starving. Since I was driving and needed something I could eat with one hand, I had another bar. (Shh, don’t tell Keri!)
We arrived at the house around 12. Here’s some shots of the view from the front porch. I took a couple of me, but it was so sunny, you could either see me or see what’s behind me. So here’s a couple. You get the idea.
After making ‘we’re here and okay’ phone calls and bringing in bags, we settled in for lunch. I scrapped together what my mom left in the fridge: turkey sandwich with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and spicy mustard on white bread with baby carrots and an apple on the side:
I haven’t eaten white bread in so long that this tasted like cake. Seriously! It tasted like a sandwich made with cake.
Peter’s napping off his sickness while I’m blogging. Once I’m done here, I’m going to go to the grocery store to pick up some essentials. Feels so good to be back at my (summer) home!

Hi there! I stumbled across your blog today, and I’m LOVING it!
You look fantastic, and your blog is amazing!
mmm I just LOVE Maine
Enjoy the vacation with lots of rest and relaxation…and feel better, P!!
Wow, that view is GORGEOUS! I need to make it to the east coast soon.
Haha! I think if you’re traveling though, it’s a bit of an excuse…they’re just so convenient!
3 bars already! Keri’s not gonna be happy!
Hope P feels better soon so you can both enjoy the vacation!
Glad you got there safely!!
Oh my goodness, SPECTACULAR view from your “blogging station” - love it!!
Oh, and thanks for the review of the Chobani! I’ll hafta keep my eye out if it’s cheaper than Fage! I swear I asked about it (vs. Fage) in a comment but now I can’t find it! Oh well!
What a beautiful view, you weren’t kidding! And it looks like your weather is much nicer than what we have here in the city today. Enjoy it! (I know you will)
Oh, and I won’t tell Keri if you won’t…oh wait, you just did because she reads your blog
Hope Peter feels better soon!
wow what a pretty view! I just wanted to say thanks for posting your feedback from Keri its so helpful!
White bread tastes like cake? LOL You’re too funny!
I find that supersized stuff is good when you are sharing with lots of people - that is how you save money! Like rather than buying three small french fries for three people, you can get one supersized and share it! =D
Ah, enjoy your time in Maine! I went to college in Maine and just loved it. I would very much like to live there year round.
That was a huge coffee!
I love Saved by the Bell!!
Oooo looks so pretty! Keri is not going to approve of the 3 bar scenario you’ve got goin on here Kate.. may as well toss in another
Have fun tonight and I am excited to keep checking in on what you and P are doing over there. (that sounded creepy)
xox
p.s- Jaclyn, I laughed at your comment big time.
