Sorry I haven’t posted guys! Since I’m on vacay, I’m trying not to do anything I don’t absolutely want to - chores and responsibilities be damned!
This morning I woke up and really wanted to post. So here we are! P was kind enough to take this picture and insist I put it on the site, so you guys know just how I’m lookin’ as I type this:
Cute, right? Check out the lobster pajama pants, holla!
On Friday (Friday, right? I’m losing track of the days), Peter and I headed into the downtown area to walk around and check out some the local sites. We stopped at a little cafe for lunch. It was so cool and not at all what I expected for Maine - big cafe with free Wifi and big squashy leather couches, positioned in between large, inviting oak tables, some with checkerboards and other board games. P and I copped a squat on one of the leather couches.
For lunch, I had a roast beef and avocado wrap, with lettuce, tomato, and some spicy mustard:
I also had a small apple:
And a cup of some local flair: strawberry soup with lime and champagne:
Wonderful! All together, with my iced coffee:
Nice little meal if I do say so myself. Great portion sizes too!
After that, we walked all around town. I picked up two little paintings that I think are just so special and will look great in the apt. We also got some Maine taffy and maple candy (a must) - just purchased them, we didn’t eat them right there. After some more walking around, we headed home. We tried to stop by a couple places on the way back but they were all closed - and it was only 5:30 PM!
Back at the house, we goofed around for a bit (including each having a piece of taffy)
before heading up to the local country inn for dinner. Of course, I ran into a few people I knew from childhood up there! It’s such a small town! To start, I had a glass of Chardonnay,
(Sorry if that’s really dark.) For appetizers, we got their famous crab dip (so, so, so, so, so, SO good) and a shrimp cocktail:
I had 4 or 5 wheat crackers with dip.
I had 3 shrimp.
In between courses, we had the house salad - which has the best dressing on Earth.
Seriously, I don’t even like salad dressing and this stuff makes me want to like the plate clean (don’t worry, I didn’t). I also had a slice of their amazing whole wheat fresh from the oven bread…drool!
Sorry if that’s too dark!
So after heavy dip, shrimp, salad, and bread, you can imagine how much room I had left for my entree. ZIp.
I got steamed scallops:
I gave the layered potatoes, up their on the right, to Peter, and took approx 6 bites of the rest. We had to box it up to take home!
We didn’t want to leave without dessert, so we got some to go. Later that night, we dug into them while watching Old School. I got lemon chiffon cake:
Which was delicious, and Peter got the amazing mousse, known far and wide for being the best chocolate mousse in Maine:
Sorry again if it’s too dark.
We woke up a little earlier than normal to the phone ringing. It was one of my mom’s tennis pals wanting to know if she could sub. I told her it would be difficult seeing as how my mom’s in Virginia! When I called my mom to tell her, she reminded me that the annual Library Book and Bake Sale was that morning and I’d better go make an appearance.
We got cleaned up and headed to the library, a few blocks away. After chatting with some of the locals, all of which saw me grow up here summer after summer, P and I picked out a few goodies and came home. We sat down for breakfast around 11. I had 1c nonfat milk with 1c Active cereal and banana:
and we had a Rhubarb Spice Square that we got at the Book n’ Bake:
It was so doughy and moist - wonderful flavor.
We rounded up our stuff and headed to downtown Bar Harbor. On the drive over, we stopped at the places we tried to go to the day before and picked up some homemade fudge and chocolate dipped blueberries for later. Yum! We also got some amazing views:
and
We did some walking around before deciding on lunch. We decided to go to Stewman’s Downtown, a lobster pound on the water:
Just in case we got lost, these guys lead us from the street down to the restaurant:
I started out with an iced tea:
See the cool guy lobster taking a bath in the pot with a martini? Haha!
Another pretty dismal menu: full of butter, mayo, and deep-frying. I decided to have some signature Maine red hot dogs, served with sweet potato fries:
I had both hot dogs, none of the coleslaw, and half the fries. Here’s me at the lobster pound:
We both wanted ice cream after lunch, so we went to my favorite childhood ice cream place: Ben and Bill’s Chocolate Emporium. Peter got their world-famous Lobster ice cream: butter flavored ice cream with real pieces of lobster:
See that big hunk of lobster up top? Blech!
But he liked it! I got a kiddie mint chip (although, looking back I wish I had branched out and gotten coconut), along with a half piece of fudge we got earlier:
Good call on the kiddie size! I didn’t need any more than this. Here’s me outside Ben and Bills:
After that, we went to Pirate’s Cove, the best miniature golf course ever and the highlight of my childhood summers. It was so much fun! Peter won of course, but i wasn’t far behind! I didn’t get a single hole-in-one though. Boo. Does anyone know if they have mini-golf in the city? Apparently I need to brush up on my skills.
Back in town, we walked around for a while and bought souvenirs. Peter is fascinated by the Maine accent and now pronounces everything without R’s - as in “Baa-haa-baa”, for Bar Harbor. Lucky me.
We started to get a little hungry, so we split a local favorite: Whoopie Pie! P described it as frosting between chocolate cake, but he is an ignoramus. It is so much more.
For the night’s activity, we decided to go to Reel Pizza. Reel Pizza is a movie theater/pizza place in town that shows 2-month old movies. What happens is you order pizza before the movie, and the fire it up a little before the show starts - so you get to watch the movie with fresh hot pizza! The best part is the seating:
Couches and lazy boys with TV trays for eating in the front and regular movie seats with tables in the back. So cool. P and I sat on the green couch in the middle.
We ordered a veggie pizza on whole wheat crust. Here was my first slice:
I had 3 slices total.
It only has two screens, so our movie choices were limited: Kit Kitteredge or the new X-Files. I was sure P would go X-Files all the way, but after looking at the reviews (and seeing Kit did way better than the X-Files) I was shocked when he said he’d rather see Kit. He said he’d rather see a good movie about a girl than a bad movie about aliens. Go figure. The movie was good - I loved American Girls as a kid. I had Addy and my little sisters had Samantha and Molly. So much fun. Kit was after my time, but I still enjoyed it. During the intermission (yeah, this place does intermissions - how awesome is that?), we split a piece of fudge:
Sorry if it’s too dark! After the movie, we headed home and crashed.
This morning, I realized were out of milk, so cereal was not an option. Instead, I made us grilled PB& banana sandwiches (must purchase George Forman when I get back to NYC):
I put the other half of banana in with some 0% Fage and honey:
And 1/2 a piece of almond banana bread that we got at the Book n’ Bake Sale yesterday:
All together:
Yum.
Understandably, I’m feeling a little thick today. After a day or so of heavy eating, I always feel a bit thick: in my arms, stomach, legs. I’m going to take a nice run today to hopefully shake this feeling off. Have a great Sunday guys!

Kate, no worries!! I commend you for posting while on vacation - it’s fun getting to read/see photographs of your fabulous trip, so thank you!!
Lobster pajama pants = TOO COOL :0D
Rhubarb-Spice bar?? Chocolate Mousse?? Almond-Banana Bread YUM!!!
Um, that lobster ice cream sounds… interesting… haha ;0)
Ewe, lobster ice cream?! I’ve never heard of such a thing! I would’ve gone for the mint chip as well

All these paninis on the blogs lately…I need to try some out with my Foreman!
Enjoy the rest of your trip!
Maine seems like such a great place! I must go there sometime.
Have some more fun!!!
Your weekend looks DELICIOUS! Hope you guys are having a wonderful time
You look really cute in all your pics! I’m glad you’re having a great vacation and all the food and treats look fabulous! Although I know how you feel a little “thick,” I must say you’re doing very well portion wise and food choice wise in my opinion so you should be proud of yourself! Enjoy your vaca!
It looks like you are having lots of fun!! I always think it feels great to workout after you have been on vacation or just eating a ton on the weekend. It gives me motivation to hit the gym hard on Monday!
Also, those red hot dogs look fake! I have never seen anything like them!
Wow there is so much fun stuff in this post, I don’t even know where to begin!
Gotta comment on that lobster ice cream though. Weeeeird. I’m not quite sure if I would enjoy something like that. I would inevitably have to give it a lick to try though!
Loving that theatre too, that’s craziness. What a neat idea
Lobster ice cream sounds like an Iron Chef creation. Was it vanilla i’ve cream with lobster bits or lobster flavored ice cream with lobster bits. Not sure how that changes my feelings about it - just curious.

The strawberry soup look so refreshing…
Lobster ice cream? I think I remember seeing that on Road Tasted actually. On one hand it sounds entirely unappealing, but I’d atleast want to sample it!
wow, what great food you’ve been eating! Those sweet potato fries look heavenly. They are my favorite food and I make them healthily at home by just baking in the oven (which is still plenty good) but whenever I get the chance to have the real deal I’m the happiest person ever!
That movie theatre is ADORABLE!!! What a great idea, it looks so much fun, and the pizza looks delicious!
It looks like you’re having such a great vacation—I’m totally jealous, I’ve just been working and studying, no fun at all!
hey kate-
i’m just getting more and more jealous of you being in maine lol… it looks really fun. i love eating local speacialties wherever i go. and i love love love my foreman grill for grilled panini type sandwhiches- i’ve been doing it for years and continue to rave about how easy and delicious it is…
I love reading about your adventures in Maine! It’s bringing back so many memories–lobster ice cream, sofas and comfy chairs in local cinemas…
Keep having fun!
Whoop whoop what a fun time away! The lobster ice cream makes me wanna gag though.
No thank you!
xox
Lobster ice cream?!
I love the pictures. The food all sounds so good!
All that food looks so good! I would love to try some Strawberry Soup…maybe I’ll try to make it one day.
I found some old pictures of you from your birthday last year, and you should be really proud of all the work you’ve done with getting in shape! You look thin and healthy on your vacation vs beautiful and a little chunky at your party. Seriously. Look at the pictures and feel proud.
The Shoe is back to her old tricks: knocking shit over and cuddling like a bitch. Can’t wait to see you when you’re back in NYC!
