  • Running by the River

    Hey guys,

    Loving this morning so far. Feeling very organized and accomplished. I went to bed smiling last night because I knew my lovely little table was in the next room. :D I’m so easily pleased.

    I had such trouble falling asleep last night! I kept tossing and turning until around 1:30 AM when I finally took a Melatonin. I don’t know whether it was the placebo effect or not, but I fell right asleep after that.

    I woke up this morning around 7:10, and was out the door by 7:30 - not too shabby! I woke up starving, so I had a little snack while getting dressed: 30g of TJ’s antioxidant berry mix:

    Gosh this picture makes me happy. Love, love, love my new table/place mats/bowls! I never thought I was such a sucker for little things like that - but they really do just make my day that much more special. :D

    I set out on my C25K run along the west side highway. I love running next to the Hudson early in the morning. I’ll the serious runners and athletes are out - and I feel like a member in an elite club. :P I NEVER thought I would be in good enough shape/have the mental strength to run - it feels great to overcome that block I put on myself. Unfortunately, I don’t think I did a good enough job stretching, and my right leg starting hurting in the last 3/4ths of the run. I finished out thought - and I was happy to accomplish another run. C25K 4.2 Run = 297 Calories Burned.

    After getting cleaned up, I headed into work. At work, I had the usual summer breakfast, 1c nonfat milk, 1c Fiber 1 Honey Bunches cereal, and a banana:

    Good one. See you for lunch!

    Running near the river (I live next to the Mississippi in Minneapolis) feels amazing. The cool air and beautiful view make the run so much more enjoyable. I’m happy you are getting to experience it, especially when it seemed like such an unreality before.

    Yay morning workout/run! :) Hope you were able to stretch your leg out so it won’t give you any more trouble!

    Wish I had a river to run next to…it’s sooo humid in the mornings, even at 6am when I start and it’s dark out! I can’t wait til it cools down. Unfortunately, that won’t be until like Nov/Dec here in Houston…boo.

    I was wondering if you could just quickly explain the C25K to me. What distance did you go today when you did your run? Are you at 4.2 miles, or does that mean Week 4, run 2? Sorry you might have explained it before.

    Betsy - totally.

    Lindsey - Thank you!

    Justy - Texas is too hot!!!

    Annie - C25K 4.2 means Week 4, Run 2. There are 9 weeks, 3 runs a week. You can find the whole program here: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
    So this morning I did: Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then:

    * Jog 3 minutes
    * Walk 90 seconds
    * Jog 5 minutes
    * Walk 2-1/2 minutes
    * Jog 3 minutes
    * Walk 90 seconds
    * Jog 5 minutes

    Which is about 2 miles total.
