  • Dinner with My Best Friend

Eva will never let me live the title of this post down (she’s a sassy one), but I’ve had wine, so I’m mushy.

At work this afternoon, I had two pieces of the Maine taffy I brought back for the office.  They were tasty. :)

Of course, something came up right at 5, so I didn’t get out of work til 5:30, and I had a 20 min walk to the house before I would meet up with Mary Beth at the gym.  I had to race to get there in time, but I made it!  I did about 5 min warmup on the treadmill before Mary Beth and I got started.

This was the first workout I’ve done with Mary Beth where I’ve kept my heart rate high and we’ve moved quickly from position to position.  We did alot of great moves today, and I learned something I found interesting.  We were doing kick-backs (where I was on all fours and kicked my leg back towards the sky, keeping it in an L-shape the whole time) and MB told me to make sure I wasn’t leaning to either side while doing them - that I was keeping my weight directly in the middle.  The explained that we do that for the same reason you shouldn’t lean on one foot or the other: if you put more weight on one side, you’ll build up the muscle in that side, causing your hip and thigh to be curvier, ie. more pronounced. And since I’m trying to thin out my hips, not add to them, it was important to stay balanced.  Interesting thought, right?!

After my workout with MB, I set out on my C25K run.  I’m loving the extra cardio these days.  I can’t believe my 4 mi race is in 17 days!  Training Session with Mary Beth and C25K 6.2 Run = 687 calories burned.

After my run, I came home and got cleaned up.  Dinner was still an hour away and  I was starving.  I had 1/4c of TJ’s Cranberry Omega Trail Mix.  Very filling!  It kept me satisfied until dinner:

We attempted to visit the Rouge Wine Bar, but ended up going to the upstairs restauraunt, the Paris Commune.  Being in Paris, we had to start off with a glass of white wine:

After we ordered, they brought out a sample of their corn and tomato rice combo.  It was very tasty!

Eva and I were both craving some greens, so we split a spinach salad.  Here was my portion:

For an entree, I had salmon with a spicy jam sauce on a bed of veggies and risotto.  It was delicious!

I had such a great dinner with - she’s been in Las Vegas for a week!  I’ve missed her!

P got me a little Ghiradelli Peanut Butter Chocolate square for dessert.  Yum!

    Headed off to bed!

Glad to hear your night went over so well. Dinner looks amazing and it sounds like you spent it in the best of company! Good people, good food, what more could you want? :) and I ask this rhetorical question including the Ghiradelli Peanut Butter Chocolate square. Of course.

Wow, I haven’t eaten taffy in years!! Brings back memories :-)

VERY interesting about staying balanced, in order not to build up too much muscle on one side!

Hey– I’m wondering how the transition away from calorie counting is going. How’s it working out for you? And do you still somewhat keep a tally of your calorie intake?

Thanks– and I’m jealous of that taffy you had! :)

Andrea - sorry for the no G&T!

Danielle - serious, that chocolate was good.

VG - Right? I thought it was super interesting and made tons of sense!

Diane - I think it’s going well. I’m still plateauing, which makes me think I struggled with it. BUT, I was plateauing before the switch as well, so maybe not. It’s definitely easier on me mentally - not to have to track it every day. Those calculations did take up a good part of my existence!

Morgan - Anthropologie! I love them too!
