Woah. I went a little overboard with the workout tonight - and I didn’t even mean too! When I looked down at my HRM at the end of the workout, I had to do a double take! Let me back track.
After lunch, I read the new Shape in bed while listening to my fave, Classical. Midway through an article - I fell asleep! Can you believe that?! I took a 2 hr nap in the middle of the afternoon! Nutso. I love naps, though. They were my bread and butter in college. I always scheduled morning classes and late afternoon classes so I would get in a midday nap. Swoon.
When I woke up, I goofed around before I started to get ready for the gym. I was almost on autopilot - it took less energy to go to the gym than to fight with myself about going to the gym - do you guys know what I’m talking about? That autopilot mode? Anyway, I was hungry, so I had a snack before leaving. 1/4c oatmeal with a tbsp PB. I haven’t had oatmeal in so long! It was a nice change!
So I headed to the gym. I did the Self workout from this month’s issue, including the ‘Magic Multitasker’ move that everyone’s been bloggin about. It was a good workout I thought. Some of the moves were a little awkward - I’d like to do them with MaryBeth to make sure I’m doing them right. After that, I did 30 min on the funky elliptical - it was perfect timing too. I got on just as Clueless was starting. Double Swoon.
30 min of that was a piece of cake. After the gym I set out on my C25K run. I used Map My Run to figure out how far I needed to go to reach 5k, so I decided to do that. Well, I finished my run on the way out, so I had to come all the way back. It ended up being a huge commitment - both time-wise and calorie-wise! On the way back, I got bored so I started doing intervals of walking and SKIPPING! It was fun to skip! I was never that good at it as a kid (I could only gallop). but I figured it out tonight! That really got my HR up! Unforunately/fortunately, my runs aren’t getting my HR up as high anymore - I’m getting used to it. But that skipping did the trick for sure! So are you ready for the calorie burn? It’s a little nutso. Cardio and Weights, C25K 6.3 Run, and Long Walk with Skipping Intervals = 1188 calories burned.
I got back, cleaned up, and made myself dinner. I had a plan for a meal, but I was really tired, so I ended up just making some corn on the cob and heating up an Amy’s lasagna:
I also had a cup of slightly reheated frozen cherries and blackberries. Not frozen, but still on the cold side.
All together:
Delicious!
I’m off to finish my magazine in bed. Night guys!

HA “They were my bread and butter.” Me too…though I rarely get to take naps anymore!
That Amy’s Lasagna looks pretty good actually…how did you like it?
i can’t skip either! i actually failed the skipping portion of kindergarten and my parents had to be brought in for a parent-teacher conference. bizarre, right?
Haha, no worries - sounds like your body needed that nap!!
Mmm, your oatmeal looks SCRUMPTIOUS - I seriously cannot go more than one day without oatmeal.
I WATCHED ‘CLUELESS’ AS WELL!!! Haha, that movie never gets old
I watched clueless last night too!.. I would def not take that HRM as an exact measure because almost 1200 calories seems a lot to burn even if you were doing some skipping and stuff, just so you know those things are not always so accurate… but good job anyways on the workout!
Gliding Calm - it was great! And I don’t usually like lasagna!
Sarah - Hahah, skipping conference.
VG - Seriously. Clueless is timeless.
Christie - Well, it was over 2 hours of working out, and I kept an eye on my HRM the whole time and watched it hit my usual calorie burns from my usual exercises - I just did ALOT more of them than usual. I’m going with the HRM on this one. I know they’re not always accurate, but in this case I think it was on track.

Lawd Kate!!!! 1188?!?!?!? nice work, that’s amazing.
You’re doing a fannntastic job with setting a good example (especially of how to get back on track after a ‘binge’ of sorts, which can throw most people off for days/weeks even) and you’re so inspirational!
i took a 1+ hr nap friday evening too! hell’s yeah! i hope you enjoyed yours as much as i enjoyed mine, bc it was absolutely lovely!!!!
and how was the lasagna? i see it all the time at henry’s but yet to buy it…need to look into that.
I know what you mean about being on autopilot! I do it all the time with meals. I could never be a food blogger, I am always eating the same stuff! I think it does help me stay on track though. I am very picky so I don’t like many things. I wish I was like that about the gym!!:)
This question is open to anyone.
What are your views on the Alli dietary supplement? Does it work? Is it healthy? Is it worth the money?
… Because diet and exercise alone is not working for me. And even my doctor is puzzled because I eat balanced meals and exercise everyday. Nothing is working, and I do NOT want to resort to any fad diets or any diets for that matter.
Wow, amazing job Kate! I’m about to go workout and that was definitely some inspiration I was looking for– thanks! I don’t think I can top that calorie burn though! Thanks for the flashback of Clueless, who doesn’t love that movie?!
KrisT– I don’t know much about the Alli pill, but to me any pill doesn’t seem healthy. From what I’ve heard if you eat too much food or fat your body gets sick and that just doesn’t sound healthy to me. Sometimes it takes longer for people to lose weight or it may be a bigger health problem like thyroid or something. I understand it must be frustrating, but I’d consult more professionals like a nutritionist before resorting to Alli.
Oh hey, I don’t know if you know about this video or not, but it’s for the Self workout, I did it myself too and am just bad with the word descriptions, seeing it is so much easier and sure enough, I was doing a couple of them wrong. Hope this helps, and if not you have your trainer

Wow! That is quite the calorie burn. I love your new placemats and bowels. It makes me want to shop lol… Anyways, I have been reading for awhile but haven’t commented much. I just wanted to say i really enjoy your blog. I am going planning on moving to nyc when i finish my marketing degree. I have always wanted to live there and i decided there was no reason i couldn’t. I don’t want to stay there forever, but i am definately gonna do it for a year or two. I’ve visited many many times and i can never get enough. For now, I live vicariously thru you and your new york city life lol… (and thru a good friend who attends grad school at columbia). Hope you have a good night!
First off, good job not letting a slip up plague your feelings of self worth for days to come. Many of us make that mistake.
Second, not to make fun, but jessica right above me just wrote that she loves
“your new placemats and BOWELS.”
As in….bowels.
Sorry, I couldn’t help it:D
lol… i wouldn’t have been able to help myself either. funny i did that because i’m a bit of a spaz about spelling/grammar issues… Oh well, it did make me laugh when you pointed it out!
KrisT - I saw that you had asked the same comment on KERF and just thought I would give you my two pence worth…! - I don’t know anything about the Alli dietary supplement but I am so anti-pills and supplements. I don’t think its healthy and you really don’t know what effects it will have on your body - you are effectively a guinea-pig. Has your doctor examined your diet in full and really studied it? I think if you are that desperate then you should try a nutritionist who look at exactly what you are eating and how you are exercising and give you the best solution. It seems an easy short-term immediate solution to take pills but you have to stop taking them eventually and then you will simply put the weight back on because you haven’t changed your lifestyle (the problem with all diets!). A long term solution is much healthier and the weight will stay off.
Plus I think you will be disappointed with the results (I tried diet pills in the past and they didn’t work - they just made me feel ill, gave me headaches and I couldn’t sleep). I lost 4.5 stone (63lbs) through completely changing my lifestyle.
Amy- awww, thanks!
Melissa S. - I loved it! It tasted totally natural and not like a microwave dinner at all.
Tracy - I wish I was like that about food!
KrisT - I did some research on this - and I guess what it comes down to for me is that I want to lose weight that my body is comfortable and able to part with. If you’re not losing weight, I would assume there is a reason for that - especially if you’re eating well and exercising enough. I wouldn’t trust a supplement (that apparently gives you spontaneous diarrhea) to do what my body should be able to do for itself. And if your doctor really thinks that you need medical intervention, I would be more willing to get behind a prescribed medication than an OTC drug like Alli. Just my two cents.
Keep me posted!
Ashley - Everyone loves that movie.
Jessica - Aw yay, I’m glad you like the blog! That’s the exact same thing I said to myself Senior Year - ‘why CAN’T I live in NYC?’ And I did it! Getting here’s easy - staying here and being happy is the tough part, I think!
Megs -
Jo - an RD is a great idea!
