  • Working Lunch

Man today has been busy! I got some good work done this morning, but then I got sidetracked by my meeting with Keri and running errands. I have a feeling I’m going to be working from home tonight. I’m fine with that, I just hope I can squeeze in a workout - although I really don’t see how I could, unless my class ends early tonight.

Since my meeting was at 1:30, I had a snack around 12:45 before I left the office:

My meeting with Keri went well! I came in discouraged with my still-plateauing self. After looking at my food journal, Keri pointed out the reasons I wasn’t losing (too much sugar, poor food planning) and we talked about taking control of my weight loss. Together we decided that I need to make a couple of key changes:

    • eating breakfast at home before work
    • adding a mid-morning snack around 10ish when I get to work
    • adding more side salads to meal

Overall, I just need to get better at meal planning. It’s like a puzzle. You have to put all the right foods in - but in the right way. I’ll get there.

I left feeling empowered, but still kinda bummed. After running a few errands, I headed back to work. I sat down to lunch close to 3 PM (where is the day going???). I had a can of solid albacore on an Ezekiel cinnamon raisin english muffin, and two slices of watermelon:

and the other half of last night’s salad:

Alright, I’ve got to get back to it. I’m heading straight from here to Staples for class supplies, then to the bookstore to pick up the reading, and then to class from 6:45 to 9:45. I’ve got a snack planned for somewhere in there too. Bye guys!

Hi Kate! I’m a new blogger but a frequent visitor of your site. I’m so happy that your meeting went well. It’s always good to have the support and guidance of an RD…they really know their stuff! I’ve been looking for some books for help on overcoming emotional eating, preoccupation with food, etc. How did you like Roth’s Breaking Free? Any other reads you would recommend??

    Thanks!!

I definitely think that planning is one of the most important parts of a healthy lifestyle, and I know you’ll do great!

Just curious…why did Keri recommend eating at home not work for your breakfast? Is that because you were waiting too long after you woke up to eat? I sometimes wonder if that is my issue too. I usually work out from 4 - 5:15 am. When I head home I grab a cup of coffee while I get ready and then when I get into the office I drink more coffee and then make my breakfast closer to 8…that is 4 hours after being up. I have started drinking a protien shake as soon as I get home from the gym…so just curious. Thanks.

I think the eating before work is a good idea because if you wait too long you may be RAVENOUS and end up not feeling satisfied and this can trigger binges later in the day… def give it a try. sounds like a good plan!

    Veggie - Thanks, I’m trying!

HappyHealthyHeart - Oh yay, thanks for reading! I haven’t finished Geneen’s book, but I really really liked what I saw. It’s top on my ‘to buy’ list. Another great one that really helped me was Fit From Within by Victoria Moran. She’s a great motivational speaker and talks alot about binging. I flip through it every so often - it has a ton of great info!

    Meghan - Aw thanks!

cb - Exactly…I was waking up at 7 or earlier and that 3 to 4 hours before breakfast. Keri said that you should eat within 1 hr of waking, no exceptions. If it doesn’t bother your stomach, maybe have the protein shake before you work out? Then have breakfast about 3-4 hrs later. Let me know how it works out!

Christie - totally! I think I might have been subconsciously hungry…setting me up for eating alot later. I’m gonna try it!

    - Kate
