They say you have to live in NYC for 10 years to be considered a true New Yorker. I’ve lived here for almost 3, so forgive me if I speak out of turn, but I LOVE New York. This morning for breakfast I had one of my favorite New York discoveries, egg on a roll. Well, my Keri-fied version of egg on a roll anyway, which is two egg whites, one egg on whole wheat bread:
True NYC egg on a roll is 2 eggs, bacon and/or cheese on a soft white roll - oh my goodness, it’s heaven. But I reserve those for drunk brunches and after church treats. Like anything NYC does well (cupcakes, pizza, bagels), everyone has an opinion on where to get the best and cheapest ones. One of my first NYC apts was on 3rd and Ave C in Alphabet City. I lived above the (and Rita will kill me for saying this because she does not agree) BEST pizza place, Moon Pie. Maybe it was the fact that slices were only $1.50 and I was REALLY poor, but man oh man, that was the best pizza in the city for me. I had a slice for dinner MANY a night.
Anyway, I’ve been craving OJ lately, so I skipped my usual banana and got a carton with lots of pulp:
Man, this breakfast hit the spot. Although I may have eaten too fast, because my stomach is sore now.

I am so jealous you live in my beloved city of NYC. I can’t wait to live there. Good luck with everything….Love your sandwich idea-did you use butter?!
Egg sandwiches really do hit the spot rather nicely..glad you enjoyed!
yay! you’re back!
NYC = my #1 favorite city
Yay, so glad you´re back! And just an f.y.i. an egg sandwich AND a slice of pizza are top two on my list of real NY food when I return to the states
glad you got to enjoy both, haha
Hi Kate!
I just came across your blog recently and just wanted to share my love to NYC as well! When I first moved to NYC, I lived in Alphabet City too! I havent lived here as long as you have, but I am developing the new yorker edge already!
it’s cool.
i can forgive you since you’re not from around these parts and did not grow up with New York pizza.
