Another quiet night in – I’m so boring lately!  Sorry guys!  I will be so happy when this recovery is OVER!  This afternoon I had a snack of nonfat vanilla yogurt with strawberries:

Snack was 133 calories, 28g carbs, 0g fat, and 6g protein.  I love this combo!! It tastes just like strawberry shortcake.  I especially like the cool yogurt mixed with the hot berries – yum!

For dinner we ordered in Chinese.  I had to get my favorite: an egg roll!!

Sometimes I’ll get summer rolls instead of spring or egg rolls, because it’s the same stuff steamed instead of deep fried.  But tonight, I wanted the real thing. :)   I also had some steamed chicken and veggies:

It felt nice to get some veggies!!  Dinner was 521 calories, 80g carbs, 8g fat, and 37g protein.

I think the agenda reads: bed.  P is EXAUSTED and passed out at 9:30, and I’m not long behind.  Tomorrow I think pancackes are on the menu, P was talking about them all night for some reason.  Crazy boy. :P Night!

Hey guys! Dinner tonight was alot of fun. It was so great to meet Ari and Betsy in person. We’re definitely going to have to do it again. But let’s backtrack:

This afternoon when I got home from work I had a slice of Cinnamon Raisin Ezekiel Bread with a tbsp PB:

Snack was 175 calories, 21g carbs, 9g fat, and 7g protein.

I had planned for this to be a pre workout snack, but after lunch I started feeling weird/sickly again. After I had this snack, I actually fell asleep! I woke up at 7:50 – our dinner was at 8! Whoops! I’m not sure what’s going on with me lately – Peter think I’m just dealing with alot of stress and nerves. I am getting pretty nervous about this surgery!

Anyway, I raced to meet the girls, who had already gotten a table. I started off with a glass of Chardonnay.

For an entree, I got the stuffed portabello mushrooms (I ate about 2/3 of this):

And the three of us split the maple cream tart for dessert.

After dinner, that temptress Arielle convinced us all to go to Billy’s Bakery for cupcakes! :) (Didn’t take much convincing!) I got one chocolate/vanilla and one vanilla/vanilla.

I ate one and gave one to Peter.

What a great night! I’m estimating dinner and dessert at 650 calories. Girls, we’ve got to do it again!

I’m heading to bed. Hopefully I’ll feel better tomorrow and get in a good workout in the morning. Night!

Sorry for the late post guys, it’s been a weird morning.  My doctor never got the lab results from the lab, so I had to call the lab, which sent me to the lab headquarters, which sent me back to the lab, who made my doctor call, and so on and so forth.  Good news it that it all worked out.  My doctor is calling in my prescriptions as I type and the hospital should be calling before 2 with the time of my surgery on Monday.  Phew!  It will be a miracle if I get to this surgery on Monday.  This surgery has been Murphy’s Law from Day 1. I can’t wait til it’s over!

Anyway, since I was on the phone with doctors and labs all morning, I got to work late which meant I was rushing and forgot my camera.  Boo.  Sorry guys.  But this morning I had another bowl of shredded oats and banana with milk.  I’m on such a cold cereal kick these days!  Looked like this:

Breakfast was 431 calories, 90g carbs, 4g fat, and 16g protein.

Today is the first day of our Friday Summer Hours, which means that every Friday from now until Labor Day, the office will close at 2 PM! Wahoo!  Unfortunately/fortunately one person has to stay behind until 5 PM to answer phones and stuff.  I volunteered today to be my day to get it out of the way early, plus I’m not going to be here next week.

Today I’m training the temp who’s sitting in for me next week, then heading to the gym for a good workout (feeling much better today).  After that, I’m having dinner with Arielle and Betsy for what I’ve dubbed NYC Food Blogger Summit 08. We’re going to Blossom.  What would you get?

Have a great day!

Hey guys! My sunburn kicked in full force this afternoon, and I could barely move, let alone go to the gym. :( Two days in a row without the gym is unheard of for me, so I’m a little bummed. Although I feel that I’m at a place with my lifestyle where two days sans gym doesn’t equal ‘falling off the wagon’ or a huge failure on my part. I’m secure enough in myself and my dedication to my health that I know two days don’t define me. I hope I’m feeling better tomorrow – I’m definitely ready to be back in the workout groove!
Peter slept the day away, with an early early early morning flight and no sleep last night. So I cleaned the apartment and caught up on magazines – definitely a restful holiday. At some point in the afternoon I went out and got some snacks for us. I had a Luna bar:

And then a bit later I had a whole wheat tortilla with a tbsp almond butter:

Snacks were 450 calories, 57g carbs, 20g fat, and 19g protein.

For Peter’s welcome back dinner, we went to a reader-recommended restaurant, Quintessence.  Many thanks to Margherita for the thoughtful recommendation!  (Hi Margherita!)  Quintessence is located in the east village in a tiny little space on a tiny little street.  Very sweet.  To start, P and I split the chip and dip platter:

This was ’spicy tomato-cilantro salsa, dairy-free sour cream and guacamole served with home-made corn chips and flax crackers’. The crackers were good, and the guacamole was great!  For an entree, I had the Scallion Roll:

I had two of the four rolls.  These were ‘light yet satisfying nori rolls filled with scalion creme cheese, avocado, bell pepper, cucumber, caramelized onion, tomato and sprouts.’ These were really tasty – I’m going to have the other two rolls for lunch tomorrow.  And for dessert, P and I split the dessert platter:

From top left, clockwise: Chocolate Pecan Pudding Cake, Coconut Banana Creme Pie, Chia Seed Pudding, and Lemon Yam Cake.  They all sounded delicious, but both P and I were really disappointed – none of them were that good!  The best one was the Lemon Yam Cake, and even that wasn’t great.  P was so disappointed that he stopped for a Cookies and Cream milkshake on the way home (which I stole a few sips from). :)

I’m estimating dinner at 600 calories. Well, I’ve certainly had a restful holiday – I hope you have too!  Night!

Hey all! This afternoon was quite the experience! I had a great time seeing my friends, and it was a BEAUTIFUL sunny day, which really helped my spirits. The plan was for Eva and I to meet up, and then us to meet up with our friends Rita and Bryan (Hi guys!) to walk around the park. Eva lives waaaay up town so while I was waiting for her to arrive, I got myself a treat:

Swoon. When Eva arrived, I treated her to one :) and then we made our way to the park. After meeting up with Rita and Bryan (and their dog, Gonzo), we decided to get some food. Eva spotted Mary Ann’s and I could hear their margaritas calling my name. :) Here’s Eva and I waiting to order:

And Rita and Bryan on the other side of the table:

For lunch/dinner/whatever it was, I had a margarita:

Yum. Their margaritas are the best. I also had a vegetarian omelette with one egg, two egg whites, and all sorts of veggies with some cheese on top:

Really great. (I didn’t eat any of the rice.) I’m estimating lunch at 600 calories.

After lunch, I wanted to show Eva the Pure Food and Takeaway, and guess who was sitting out front eating vegan food? Owen Wilson and Woody Harrleson! So to make a long story short, Owen and I are running away together and this will be my last blog entry. See ya!

Just kidding. :)

Do you remember those old Little Nero’s commercials? Pizza, pizza!

Anyway, I met up with Peter to have a mini goodbye lunch in the midst of some work errands. We ate at Penn Station (boo) because he had to catch a train in 20 min. We ate at Houlihan’s and the pickings looked pretty slim. I finally decided on what I thought to be relatively harmless: appetizer portion thin crust pizza cooked with extra virgin olive oil, zucchini, tomatoes, olives, and goat cheese.

This makes it look alot larger than it was – it was only 7″ across (about the size of a tortilla). I ate about 3/4 of this. I’m estimating this lunch at 600 calories.

Can you believe this was the appetizer serving?? It’s a meal in and of itself! Makes me worried about what we think is normal portion these days….

My goal for this afternoon is to NOT let the office cookies get the best of me. I cannot wait to get to Chelsea Piers after work, so I’m just going to think about that and maybe have a cup of coffee if those guys are really calling my name!

I was hoping to get it together last night and pack lunch for today, but it didn’t happen. Bad Kate! I hate buying lunch: it’s a waste of money, a waste of food I have at home, and takes a chunk out of my day. Tonight I have to get my lunch packed – it’s a must!

I wanted to do something different than my usual Guy and Gallard, so I tried a new, local sandwich shop. As I’ve said before, I usually don’t eat straight meat. I may have eggs, honey, and fish but rarely meat itself. But they had a ‘Thanksgiving Wrap’ and it was calling my name. My favorite part of Thanksgiving is afterwards – the ‘Thanksgiving Sandwich’ – turkey, stuffing, squash, parsnips, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, peas, mayo – basically all of Thankgiving on toasted whole wheat. AMAZING. I live for those guys. Their wrap contained turkey, cranberry sauce, lettuce and tomato.

The meat and cranberry sauce were good, but the lettuce and tomato were kind of flavorless. I think I’ll go back there anyway though – it looked promising. I also had 9 huge strawberries:

These guys were delicious! I’m really full now, oy. All together:

Lunch was 534 calories, 74g carbs, 8g fat, and 41g protein.

So tonight I’m definitely going to have time to hit up the pool because our reservation isn’t until 9:15. We’re going to dinner at Del Posto. What would you get?

Excuse this post because I’m a little tipsy! Well, my calm, efficient night turned into a girls night out when I called my friend Eva for shopping and dinner. I wanted to buy this purse, but by the time I got to the shop, it was closed. Boo. So we went to a nearby Italian place and split a bottle of wine and and appetizer. I had two glasses of wine and 2 little stuffed portebello mushrooms.

And second glass:

And the mushrooms:

And when I got home I had a little of the coconut sorbet :P :

Dinner was 332 calories, 30g carbs, 8g fat, and 4g protein.

Whew, this wine is going to my head, night!

Edited to Add:

I forgot to tell you guys about my afternoon snack.  I got a free DD iced coffe (yum!) and tried a new flavor of Luna Bar: Smores.  Good, but again not as good as their mint/chocolate combo.  I must say, I’m having fun trying all their different flavors.

Snack was 180 calories, 27g carbs, 5g fat, and 10g protein.

Also, about 10 minutes after this post, P came home with tapas, grr.  Way too many nibbles ensued.  ~400 cals.

Hey guys, quick post because I have to get to bed early so I can wake up for my 7 AM pilates class. I got out of work really late tonight, and went to Modell’s to get a bathing suit and swim goggles. I’ve been thinking about adding swimming to my workouts for a while, and I think I’ll kick it off this weekend! I’m really pleased that I’ve been expanding my workout routines – it’s really been very satisfying! My lunch was definitely too small – before I left work I had an iced coffee and a new flavor of Luna Bar: Chocolate Raspberry.

It was good, but not great – I could definitely taste both the chocolate and the raspberry, which I wasn’t expecting. Still, it could have been better. Snack was 190 calories, 27g carbs, 5g fat, and 9g protein.

When I got finally got back, I only had time for one thing: cook dinner or go to the gym. P told me to go to the gym (he knows how I get minus gym time :) ) so he ordered in sushi while I worked out. I did the Cardio Smorgasboard again, and I had an amazing workout! Awesome calorie burn! Cardio Smorgas = 558 calories burned.

Before I worked out, I had an Ezekiel English Muffin Cinnamon Raisin with a tbsp Almond Butter:

Pre Workout Snack was 175 calories, 21g carbs, 9g fat, and 7g protein.

The blog has allowed me to analyze my eating, and I’ve realized how often we eat out! I feel like that might be a product of New York – there’s always a new, delicious restaurant to try! I feel like I make good choice 90% of the time, so it’s okay. Let me know your thoughts…

For dinner, I had a bowl of miso (a great starter to fill up on) plus 2 salmon rolls, 4 tuna rolls, and 4 spinach rolls, and edamame.

Dinner was 387 calories, 50g carbs, 8g fat, and 31g protein.

Night all!

Today has been one of those days where nothing really has gone like I wanted it to. When I got home, I had what I thought would be a Pre Workout Snack, so I made one with carbs and protein, which is the most effective pre-workout snack in my experience. Well, I wasn’t really thinking clearly, because my snack was similar to my lunch and didn’t give me the fruits and veggies I so desperately needed. Grr… And then I realized I couldn’t workout because my clothes were still in the laundry. Sigh. Cocoa banana scone with a tbsp cashew-macadamia butter. Pre-workout Snack was 228 calories, 29g carbs, 12g fat, 6g protein.

So I knew I wanted tons of veggies for dinner tonight, and Peter wanted to go out, so we went to a Thai place near us called Pad Thai. Clever name, right? Once there, we each had a summer roll.

Summer rolls are great because they’re just like a spring roll or an egg roll, minus the deep frying egg and plus tons more veggies. I LOVE spring rolls, but summer rolls are a good healthy sub. For an entree, I had steamed veggies with tofu.

That’s soy sauce on the left and peanut satay on the right. More veggies hiding under the lettuce leaf:

They had tons of different types of veggies, so that was good, but it was a little flavorless. I had all the veggies, none of the rice, and about of tbsp of each of the sauces. Dinner is estimated at 268 calories, 43g carbs, 14g fat, and 13g protein.

I forgot my pre-haircut picture at work. :( So you’ll have to wait til tomorrow for it – ooh the suspense. My amazing boyfriend volunteered to go to the grocery store for vegetables (this never happens), so I’m off to read the new Shape and pretend this day wasn’t so yucky. Minus the haircut. :)
